My home

Our house has been transformed into a home in preparation for Aiden--thanks to my family for all of their help and hard work over the past few months. My dad even installed central heating! Everyone in my family pitched in and we are so blessed and thankful that they drove over 50 miles a day to help us out. Check out the photos below to see before and after transformations of our house room by room.

The front of the house- Before and After. We had all new windows installed (including a cut-down on left front window) and my dad installed a new door. Chris ripped out the bush that covered the front of our house and Martin and I kicked down some of the lattice. One day, we will rip out the junipers, but for now, this is home sweet home!

Our living room--Before: wood paneling on the fireplace wall, hideous colors, nasty carpeting, a floor heater and a small doorway entrance to the kitchen.

After: textured walls, pretty paint, refinished and stained hardwood flooring, removal of floor heater, expanded entry to kitchen, and brand new furniture.

The Kitchen- Before: This is still a work in progress. We need to tile the floors and back splash. My dad is also planning on installing a dishwasher and garbage disposal. But as you can see, it has come a LONG way! This was our first project since Martin's parents funded the cabinets and counter tops as a housewarming present (thank you!).

After: We have brand new cabinets, appliances, and granite counter tops.

Aiden's Room- Before: Can you believe the paint job on this room when we bought the house! The woman that owned the home before was a bit eccentric. She said it took her 3 months to get the blue sponge painting perfect in this room. She even painted around the ceiling light bright yellow and added yellow marbles to the fixture to make it look like a sun. The room was wall to ceiling sky spongy blue and the floors were damaged hardwood.

After: New carpeting, window coverings, new paint, new light fixture, new doors and trim and a removable wall paper border.

Our Room. Before: wall to ceiling reddish pink. It was like stepping into a human heart. It also had damaged hardwood and a small closet door.

After: enlarged closet opening with sliding doors, new carpeting, new paint, and new door.

Third room (the den). Before: brick fireplace, hardwood tiles, crazy homemade closet, teeny window.

After: window expanded by 3 feet, new closet with sliding doors, bricks covered, new carpet, new paint. We are using this room as the TV room/guest room since it has a futon that turns into a full size bed.

The Laundry/Tigre and Ruthie's room- Before: This room was completely unfinished. It didn't have a ceiling, it had random cabinets stuck to the walls, it had no texture or paint, and the washer and dryer were on separate pedestals.

After: This is now a finished room (except for the flooring--it is still concrete but will one day be laminate). We now have texture, painted walls, the washer and dryer side by side (they had to be raised because of the foundation), my Dad and Jerry did a lot of plumbing and electrical work as well. We have a new light and a dog door. This is the only room that Ruthie and Tigre are allowed in, and now that it is finished, they love it!
